Guide for Web Hosts: Currency Converter and Prices/VAT When Listing Offers

In the following guide, we would like to address two important topics to consider when listing offers on hosttest for multiple target countries (currently DE, AT, and CH). One is the automatic currency converter and the other is the pricing and value-added tax (VAT) issue.
Automatic Currency Converter for Offers in a Target Country with a Different Currency
When listing offers on hosttest, the target country of the offer, the language of the short description, and the currency can be selected in the "Internationalization" section.
Creating an offer for target countries in the Hosttest backend:
When selecting a target country with a different currency – e.g. target country: Switzerland but currency: EUR – the current exchange rate is automatically used in the offer overview on the respective country version of hosttest – here, for example, on hosttest.ch – to display the costs in the local currency – in this case, CHF. This means that the offer is displayed in the target currency, increasing comparability for users in that country.
Offer displayed in target currency in the Hosttest frontend:
Special feature: The offer will only be displayed in the target country if there are currently only a few offers available in the corresponding category. If there are already many country-specific offers available, such as CHF offers from Swiss web hosts, then EUR offers converted to CHF from German web hosts will not be displayed. This provides clear added value for users looking for hosting offers in less frequented categories, without disadvantaging web hosts in their home market.
VAT and Pricing When Listing Offers in a Target Country
Generally, offers on hosttest are listed with the final customer price, i.e. the gross price including the applicable VAT for the target country.
Therefore, please ensure that the price of the listed offer in the target country corresponds to the price that will be charged to the customer at checkout on your website.
If you have different gross prices per destination country, you must copy the offer and set the correct price for each respective country.
Offers can also be entered, for example, for the destination country Switzerland in EUR if you also invoice the costs to your customer in EUR.
Examples:
- If, as a German web hosting provider, you charge a customer from DE 1.00 EUR + 0.19 EUR VAT (VAT in Germany 19%) at checkout on your website for a web hosting offer, then the price for the offer with destination DE on hosttest should be stated as 1.19 EUR.
- If, as an Austrian web hosting provider, you charge a customer from AT 1.00 EUR + 0.20 EUR VAT (VAT in Austria 20%) at checkout on your website for a web hosting offer, then the price for the offer with destination AT on hosttest should be stated as 1.20 EUR.
- If, as a Swiss web hosting provider, you charge a customer from CH 1.00 CHF + 0.08 CHF VAT (VAT in Switzerland 8.1%) at checkout on your website for a web hosting offer, then the price for the offer with destination CH on hosttest should be stated as 1.08 CHF.
Therefore, also pay attention to the correct final customer gross prices when setting up offers for other destination countries and using different VAT rates depending on the destination country.
Important: You must clarify with your tax advisor how to correctly invoice VAT to your customers. Our explanations do not constitute tax advice but are only intended to illustrate how prices for offers should be correctly stored on hosttest.
You can also use the "asterisk text" field in the offers to ensure transparency and provide details about the specified price.
