CloudFest 2022 Recap
At the end of March this year, it was finally time again: After the previous CloudFest events could only be held virtually due to the pandemic, the industry actually met live on-site at Europa-Park Rust after several years. For many of the visitors and exhibitors, it was the first live event in more than two years, and the incredible relief and excitement could be felt throughout the entire event!
More than 6000 participants from over 65 different countries made their way to this year's CloudFest and, while adhering to strict hygiene rules, were able to not only engage in personal conversations again but also attend interesting presentations, visit exciting exhibitors in the exhibition hall, and really let loose at the evening party events!
The CloudFest Hackathon held before the main event already thrilled participants and visitors alike, who cheered on the most skilled programmers and developers as they completed their tasks. At the CloudFest main event this year, numerous presentations once again captivated the crowds. Particularly noteworthy were the live performance by physicist/ballet dancer Dr. Merritt Moore and her four-member robot dance group, as well as the talks by Ecosia CTO Dr. Wolfgang Oels, best-selling author Yuval Noah Harari, and WordPress Executive Director at Automattic Josepha Haden Chomphosy. Thanks to the innovative CloudFest app, the live sessions could also be followed via stream.
This year, special importance was finally given to the evening CloudFest social event parties. And the line-up left nothing to be desired: From the rocking sounds of The Lords of Uptime at the Come2Gather Party and the AC/DC Tribute Artist Barock at the CloudRock Party to the house grooves of a band that looked very similar to Daft Punk at the CloudHouse Concert, there was something for every taste. The traditional BierFest Closing Party was once again a fitting conclusion to this year's event.
Of course, the numerous exhibitors from around the world were also exciting at CloudFest 2022. Particularly noteworthy were the following:
Nextcloud
Nextcloud offers open-source software for storing data in the cloud. It's not just about files, but also about calendar entries or events that can be quickly and conveniently synchronised via a web interface or client application, making them accessible and available on users' devices anytime, anywhere.

Open-Xchange provides a versatile collaboration software with integrated apps for editing office documents, files, emails, contacts, and appointments through the OX App Suite. This German company has positioned itself as an exciting competitor to Microsoft in the international market, offering email and groupware solutions for businesses, authorities, and educational institutions.
CloudLinux
CloudLinux OS is a commercial Linux distribution primarily of interest to web hosting providers and data centre operators. Developed by the US-based CloudLinux, Inc., the software is based on the CentOS operating system, utilising the OpenVZ kernel and RPM Package Manager, with a focus on security and usability.
opentalk.eu
opentalk.eu, created by the German company openTalk GmbH from Berlin, aims to develop secure video conferencing software that is not only fully GDPR-compliant but also places great emphasis on data protection, scalability, and digital sovereignty. These exciting offerings target not only traditional corporate clients but also educational institutions and the public sector.
Overall, CloudFest 2022 at Europa-Park Rust was once again a great success, and one can certainly look forward to future events of this annual industry gathering!
