With 1&1 IONOS, 1&1 is repositioning itself in the web hosting sector
The web hosting company 1&1 has been operating under the new brand name 1&1 IONOS since the end of October 2018. From now on, all offers in the web hosting and cloud sectors are combined under this new brand, providing better service on a national and international level. The company aims to not only target private customers but also to support medium-sized businesses in their advancing digitalisation efforts.
The web hosting provider 1&1, part of the United Internet Group based in Montabaur, has been one of the largest web hosting providers in the market for many years. Following the acquisition of the Berlin-based cloud provider ProfitBricks last year, the offerings of both business areas are now merged and also offered internationally under the brand 1&1 IONOS.
Customers will benefit not only from a wide range of web hosting and cloud solutions but can also look forward to improved customer service. 1&1 IONOS aims to provide a personal contact for each customer, available during regular business hours via phone, email, and chat. The impersonal call centre support is set to become a thing of the past.
Under the brand 1&1 IONOS, a move into the Platform as a Service (PaaS) sector is also planned. With the ongoing digitalisation and Industry 4.0, more and more companies are compelled to switch to high-performance cloud solutions for their systems. This is where 1&1 IONOS can support its customers with the right expertise and suitable technical solutions. The focus of the brand is particularly on medium-sized companies.
The new brand name IONOS is derived from the term 'ionosphere', symbolising a connection to the cloud industry. Additionally, IONOS is a clever wordplay of the terms IO (input/output in the tech and software development field), N (stylised 'n' from English 'and'), and OS (operating system in the tech and software development field). Right from the start, 1&1 IONOS will be the largest web hosting provider in Europe with over 8 million customers and managing more than 12 million domains, with the goal of continuously expanding its business. With Achim Weiß at the helm of 1&1 IONOS, the brand can draw on the expertise of one of the most prominent figures in the German web hosting industry.
