In this context, we consider which option is best suited for our intended use case: building a WordPress website.

Beginners with no prior experience can use the IP-Projects website builder packages to create their own website in a particularly simple way. For our IP-Projects web hosting test, we chose a classic webspace package with SSD storage – the Premium SSD Hosting S G1 plan.

The classic SSD-based web hosting packages are divided into four different plans, which differ only in terms of storage space and the number of available databases:

• Premium SSD Hosting S G1 offers 10 GB of SSD storage and 10 GB of email storage, and includes 1 MariaDB database.
• Premium SSD Hosting M G1 comes with 25 GB of SSD storage and 25 GB of email storage, and includes 6 MariaDB databases.
• Premium SSD Hosting L G1 provides 75 GB of SSD storage and 75 GB of email storage, and includes 12 MariaDB databases.
• Premium SSD Hosting XL G1 offers 150 GB of SSD storage and 150 GB of email storage, and includes 24 MariaDB databases.

Key contract details

IP-Projects offers customers a flexible contract setup. The webspace packages are available with terms of 1 month, 3 months, 12 months, or 24 months.

Unfortunately, it is not immediately clear how the contract term affects the monthly price or whether longer commitments come with discounts. Overall, the pricing structure is somewhat difficult to follow, as the basket also lists the cost of the free included domain (even though this is then automatically deducted from the price of the webspace package). The different contract terms add further confusion: depending on the selected term, the overview shows items such as quarterly, annual, or two-year charges, as well as a total amount, without it being entirely clear how often each item is billed and when. A clearer and more transparent presentation would be desirable here. The notice period is 14 days for all contracts.

Features

All IP-Projects plans come with fast SSD storage. Even the entry-level plan includes 10 GB, which is sufficient for many smaller projects, while the top-tier plan offers a generous 150 GB. A particularly positive point is that the full storage allocation can be used for website data, while the same amount of storage is provided separately for email mailboxes.

The offering in terms of included domains is more modest. Both the entry-level and the top-tier plans include only one domain, and only a .de domain is available as the included option. However, external domains from other providers can be used on the webspace packages without any restrictions. Free SSL certificates are available for all domains.

All plans include databases and support PHP, making them suitable for running common content management systems and other web applications. Even automated cron jobs and SSH access are available on all plans.

All Premium SSD webspace plans from IP-Projects run on SSD hardware RAID 10. This not only ensures excellent performance but also improves reliability and fault tolerance. The latest PHP versions are available, and the default PHP memory_limit is set to 512 MB on all plans. To manage their hosting, customers get access to the Plesk control panel. This user-friendly web interface makes it easy to administer the webspace package. Additional tools such as the SEO Toolkit and the WordPress Toolkit are also provided to help optimise and manage the website.

What security features are included?

The servers used for IP-Projects’ SSD hosting infrastructure are operated exclusively in certified data centres in Frankfurt am Main. The German location ensures compliance with all German data protection regulations and also provides a high level of security. With the free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates, all data traffic between the webspace and visitors can be encrypted. Modern spam and virus filters ensure secure email mailboxes. IP-Projects customers also benefit from a free backup, which is retained for 14 days and can be restored easily using a one-click function if required.

Verdict on the feature set

The IP-Projects webspace packages score highly with very good technical specifications and a solid overall feature set. The use of fast SSD storage, the availability of free SSL certificates, and the inclusion of the user-friendly Plesk control panel mean that the packages leave little to be desired in terms of equipment. While the amount of storage and the technical features in general leave little room for criticism, a more generous allocation of included domains would be welcome. This is particularly noticeable on the higher-tier plans, where only a single .de domain is included. On the positive side, the ability to use external domains and the inclusion of a free backup stand out.

IP-Projects Web Hosting – Ordering process

Under the Web Hosting menu item, you can get an overview of the individual webspace packages offered by IP-Projects and then choose the plan that best suits your project. You start the ordering process by clicking the “Order” button.

In the first step, you select a domain for your webspace package and choose the desired contract term and billing period. Depending on the plan, you can choose between 3, 6, 12, and 24 months. Click “Add to basket” to continue.

In the basket, you can review the items you have selected. Here you will also see the total amount to be billed. Click “Order” to proceed.

If you are already an IP-Projects customer, you can log in with your existing credentials. New customers, on the other hand, need to register using their contact details and set a password for their customer account.

In the next step, you can choose your preferred payment method. In addition to SEPA direct debit and SEPA bank transfer, PayPal is also available.

You then need to review your order and contact details once more. After agreeing to the terms and conditions, the privacy policy, and the cancellation policy, the order can be completed by clicking “Place order with obligation to pay”.

This completes the ordering process. You will receive a confirmation email from IP-Projects, and your webspace package will then be set up. This is either done automatically or processed by a member of staff during business hours. As a rule, you will receive your login details for the webspace by email within the next 24 hours.

Once your hosting has been set up by IP-Projects, you can log in to the Plesk control panel using your credentials and start configuring your webspace. You also have access to the IP-Projects customer portal.

In the customer portal, you will find all information related to your contract with IP-Projects. Here you can, for example, manage your personal details and payment methods. Important documents and invoices can also be viewed here. In addition, the customer portal provides access to the ticket system for contacting customer support.

Installing the WordPress CMS on the webspace

For our IP-Projects web hosting test, we installed the popular content management system WordPress on the webspace. To do this, we went to the “Applications” section in the Plesk control panel, where various applications are available for installation. We selected “WordPress” from the list and clicked “Install”.

The installation is completed in just a few seconds. All necessary variables, such as databases and WordPress login details, are created automatically and can be viewed easily via the control panel. You can then log straight into the WordPress interface and start building your website.

The ordering process at IP-Projects is quick and straightforward. The activation of the hosting also took place very quickly after a brief verification by support.
