.blog - Automattic with a Memorable Top-Level Domain for Bloggers

Behind the .blog domain introduced on November 21, 2016, at 4:00 pm is Knock Knock WHOIS There. This is a subsidiary of Automattic, the owner of WordPress. The operators of WordPress.com and well-known plugins like Jetpack, Simplenote, Akismet, and WooCommerce paid $19 million for the rights. According to nTLDStats, within less than a year, around 117,000 blogs were registered with the new domain extension. The annual cost for the generic .blog TLD ranges from approximately 30 to 50 euros.

Domain Registration Policies for .blog

The new blogger domain is not only aimed at WordPress users but also users of Joomla!, Serendipity, and other blogging systems. A .blog domain can be registered by any individual or company regardless of their company or residence. There is no limitation on the number of top-level domains per domain owner. Additionally, no commercial register extract or disclosure of VAT and ID numbers is required for registration. The desired address must be at least one character and can be up to 63 characters long. Permissible characters include uppercase and lowercase letters from A to Z, digits from 0 to 9, and hyphens.

.blog as an Interesting Option for Business and Personal Blogs

The domain extension .blog is self-explanatory. Searchers immediately know that clicking on such a web address will lead them to a commercial or personal blog. However, the term "blog" is not as descriptive as it used to be years ago. Unlike .com, .biz, .org, or .de, many internet addresses are still available with URLs like www.hiking.blog or www.fondue.blog. For companies, having a .blog domain offers another advantage. An enterprise blog does not have to be created as a subdomain. This allows online shops or corporate websites to set up an independent TLD with a short and memorable address.

  • Serious URL for blog owners
  • Can be registered globally even by non-WordPress users
  • Opens up the possibility of a company blog with an independent top-level domain
  • Still good chances to start a web presence with the preferred desired address

Many Alternative URLs with New Top-Level Domains

In addition to a .blog URL, there are other topic-specific domains that build trust with readers. For those who regularly report on news, a .news Domain is ideal. For bloggers writing about their hobbies, the .garden Domain, .photos Domain, or .music Domain are interesting options. The .website Domain is also a classic choice for general websites.
