Start tender.hamburg - Domain extension for Hamburg residents
The .hamburg domain was launched as the second city-specific TLD in Germany after .berlin on August 27, 2014, at 3:00 pm. Approximately one hour after the launch, around 10,000 domains were registered under .hamburg. Starting from August 14, brand rights holders had the opportunity to register a new city domain. By October 7, 2017, 24,542 .hamburg domains had been allocated. These include, among others, the traditional club HSV with hsv-arena.hamburg, the city cleaning service with stadtreinigung.hamburg, and the mayor Olaf Scholz with olaf-scholz.hamburg. The administration of the city extension, authorized by the international organization ICANN, was taken over by the private company "Hamburg Top-Level-Domain GmbH". The city of Hamburg secured a right to have a say in this matter.
Allocation guidelines for the .hamburg city domain
The allocation of the generic top-level domain with a city reference is intended for residents of Hamburg, companies, associations, or social and urban institutions. However, non-residents of Hamburg can also apply for a .hamburg city domain through a paid trustee service. In addition, individuals living outside of Hamburg, who, for example, attend a university in the port city or have a family member based in the German metropolitan region, are allowed to register.
Guidelines for the desired .hamburg address
The .hamburg web address can be composed of letters and numbers. Like other German city TLDs, it must be at least one character long and must not exceed a maximum length of 63 characters. Hyphens can be used if they are not at the beginning, end, or in the third and fourth positions. Certain Latin and Cyrillic characters are also allowed.
Strong regional focus of the city top-level domain .hamburg
The .hamburg domain offers residents and businesses the opportunity to digitally identify with their location. Since many terms are available with the new domain extension, these top-level domains are very suitable for new startups and projects in the port city. Existing businesses and companies emphasize their connection to the region. Another aspect is good rankings in search engines and regional search queries.

Alternatives in case the .hamburg internet address is already taken
Individuals, businesses, and service providers whose desired address is no longer available will find alternative options with a wide selection of nTLDs. For example, business owners can opt for the .store Domain or .shop Domain. For boutique owners in Hamburg with a customer base extending far beyond the metropolitan region, a web address under the .boutique Domain is recommended. Additionally, there are other service- and product-specific top-level domains such as the .bike Domain or .fitness Domain.
