Start tenderFroxlor is a comprehensive software for managing servers, aimed at providers who need a flexible and convenient solution for administration. It also provides a clear web interface for customers to manage accounts such as email addresses, FTP access, or domains. Like other commercial web hosting control panels, Froxlor has a three-tier hierarchy that offers different options for administrators, resellers, and end customers. Administrators can define different rights for each level and individual users, limiting the number of domains, IP addresses, databases, or available storage space, for example. Froxlor supports the installation of external plugins for custom extension of functionality. Supported extensions include interfaces for configuring services such as virus scanners, spam protection, or mail servers. Additionally, it provides a ticket system for communication between the administrator, resellers, and customers.
Froxlor is a fork of the SysCP project, which was developed from 2003 to 2010. It was created in February 2010 by some developers involved in SysCP. The stated goal of the server management software is to provide a free and open-source licensed alternative to commercial interfaces. Special attention was paid to a slim, modular structure that consumes minimal resources yet offers a wide range of features and a user-friendly interface. To achieve this, a large part of the SysCP code was revised, adapted, and optimised for high performance. Froxlor, like the Linux Kernel, uses the version control system GIT for maintaining and developing the code. This allows any participant to suggest changes and improvements that are incorporated into new versions by a dedicated team. In case of urgent needs, updates are also released promptly to address potential security vulnerabilities or critical bugs.
At Froxlor, you'll find an open-source software maintained not by a company, but by a community of programmers. Unlike other interfaces, its use is not only free, but there are no paid versions or additional paid support offered. However, a provider or web host may charge an additional fee for providing a Froxlor panel. Typically, Froxlor is offered as a free or affordable alternative to proprietary server management packages, providing customers with a clear web interface without extra licence fees. Additionally, commercial extensions for Froxlor may be used depending on the use case, for which installation, programming, or updates may require payment. Froxlor can also be used for cost monitoring, such as billing for bandwidth or traffic through the panel. Web hosts and providers may charge fees for operations if, for example, additional domains, mail, or IP addresses are to be set up beyond a specified limit.
Advantages:
Limitations:
As Froxlor is a panel for administration, installation is only possible on a standalone server. Besides requiring full root access, it also needs a top-level domain like example.com for setting up a subdomain under which Froxlor can be accessed later. On the other hand, many providers offer Froxlor for free as a graphical interface on managed webspace. In this case, Froxlor requires no additional steps but is used solely for accessing webspace and managing accounts and email traffic. Unlike other ISP Config panels, Froxlor uses very few resources and fully relies on the existing operating system. No installation of special packages outside of officially supported software is necessary. Conventional LAMP servers with Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP from version 5.3 are sufficient for operation.
Another popular open-source interface is Webmin, also designed for graphical administration. However, a key difference is that it does not use a hierarchical structure with strict separation between administration, resellers, customers, and a ticket system. Therefore, for customer support of an ISP or hosting provider that fully supports these functions, commercial solutions are particularly suitable. One of these is Plesk, which is one of the most popular tools in this area. However, regular license fees must be paid for its use, depending on the number of domains. Another solution is cPanel, which offers similar functionality and ensures high security due to the use of Perl as a programming language.
